Top 5 U.S. Airports for Long Layovers

Long layovers can be a bore when traveling, what with you needing to spend hours in the airport waiting for your connecting flight.  Thankfully, some of the airports in the United States are better equipped to keep people entertained during this time than others. These are the ones you’ll want to be in during those long, endless layovers. Let us present the best airport for layover in us!

Here are the top 5 U.S. airports for long layovers:

Dallas Fort Worth (DFW)

All five terminals are the Dallas Fort Worth airport are filled with things you can do to while away time before your connecting flight. There are a lot of places you can shop and dine, lounges to relax in, workstations and even Minute Suites are available for a quick nap.

Denver (DEN)

The people at the Denver airport are very friendly and the terminals are quite spacious, which makes it easy to find a spot to relax when needed.  Travelers can shop at numerous stores before sitting down to dine on some of the most delicious local flavors that the Denver airport restaurants have to offer.  While waiting for your next flight, you can stroll along the Art Walk as you view statues and murals, or you can catch a glimpse of the Rocky Mountains from gates C23 and C24. Recently, a new line of the Denver Light Rail opened, connecting Denver International Airport to Union Station, so if you happen to have a really long layover, head downtown to do some exploring.

Miami (MIA)

While most travelers would think that the Miami airport would be crowded at all times, it will rarely feel that way when you are there.  The terminals are large, so there will always be room for you to find some space for yourself when you need it the most.  When you are ready to join the crowds, you can venture in and out of the many stores as you do some shopping (Terminal D is literally a shopping mall within the airport) and then sit down in one of the numerous restaurants for a bite to eat – our favorite is Cuva.

Chicago

Many travelers never see any more of Chicago than the inside of the airport, but you can take advantage of your layovers to have an experience of the real Chicago.  There are multiple local dining options inside this airport that bring the true flavors of the city to everyone who sets foot in the Chicago airport.  That means you can taste a real Chicago hot dog without ever leaving the terminal!  Local businesses have even set up shop inside the airport to help you find that perfect last-minute gift for that special someone.  Any traveler that needs to relax and unwind from stress will love the Terminal Getaway Spas or the Urban Garden.

Charlotte

Downtime at the Charlotte airport can be spent shopping at any of the numerous stores and boutiques, before you go into any one of the restaurants for a meal or a drink.  During your layover, you may want to wander around the airport to see the different pieces of art that are now on exhibit inside the airport.  Most of the works of art inside are murals and the most popular ones include the ones that can be found at the end of Concourse D, the one in the Atrium, and the one in between Ticketing and Baggage Claim.  The airport also boasts southern style white rocking chairs if you need to rest your feet.

Shopping, viewing art, relaxing, and dining on delicious cuisine is always much better than reading the paper and people watching.
